David Lang: Mary Stuart Choruses

SATB (Package of 10 octavos)

For SATB chorus. "I wanted to make a kind of music that would keep the feel of the Catholic Church present in every scene, as this is a fundamental issue issue of both the play and the time period in which it takes place. To highlight this I chose only Latin texts taken from the liturgy used by Claudio Monteverdi in his 1610 masterpiece Vespro della Beata Vergine. As Monteverdi is from roughly the same time period as Mary Stuart herself and as these texts are about her own namesake I thought this was somehow appropriate" - David Lang
